Jr Great Books

Junior Great Books (JGB) is a great way for your child to connect with their friends and classmates while discovering the joy of reading. Students discuss stories together and engage in arts & crafts, dramatic interpretations, creative writing or other activities related to a story.

The JGB program begins in January, and meets once a week for 8 weeks, at school, during your child’s lunch and recess periods. All JGB leaders attend a training session in the fall, and each leader has access to our online support center, so your child is able to have the most enriching and rewarding learning experience possible.

Each group of approximately 4-8 children is co-taught by parent volunteers. The team teachers choose the 8 short stories they want to discuss from the “Junior Great Book Anthology” that is provided. Each session consists of three phases: lunch time (where the stories are sometimes read aloud), discussion time, and craft/activity time. The cost for the 8-week program is $25 to cover the books and activity materials.

You should hear from your JGB leader by early December. Your child’s books will be delivered to their classroom or home.

Please contact the Junior Great Books Chairs at jgb@centralschoolpta.org if you have questions.

Registration ended October 15th.
